TXIKOA
THE SPIRIT OF A BASQUE TAVERN IN GIRONA’S OLD TOWN
TXIKOA blends into Girona’s Old Town as a place to meet, share and enjoy. Through strategic interior design, the project shapes a welcoming hospitality concept with a strong identity of its own, inspired by the everyday life of Basque taverns. Rather than reproducing them literally, it seeks to evoke their essence: the closeness of the bar, the spontaneous gesture of sharing pintxos, and conversations that linger over food and wine.
Black-and-white photographs run along the walls, creating the project’s visual narrative. Images linked to Basque and Catalan culture portray traditions, toasts, people, sport, street life and shared moments. A way of connecting Girona with the north and filling the space with stories and everyday life.
A palette of deep greens and dark tones creates an intimate and elegant atmosphere. Wood, ceramic, mural painting and textures bring warmth, depth and personality. The lighting completes the setting with a soft and welcoming glow. An interior with character, while retaining the informal and approachable spirit that defines the gastronomic concept.
The layout adapts to different ways of experiencing the space, responding to the everyday needs of hospitality. The bar and open pintxos area make it easy to look, choose and share. High tables invite spontaneous encounters, low tables are designed for lingering over a meal, and the terrace extends TXIKOA’s atmosphere out into the square.
Rooted in Girona and looking north, TXIKOA is a contemporary tavern with a traditional soul. Basque culture is present in the atmosphere, the colour palette and the pleasure of sharing food and life.
